In Japan, "Kanreki" is a celebration to honor a person's 60th birthday. It marks, for the honoree, a metaphoric return to childhood. Paper mache is a medium that reminds me of my own childhood. It was very popular at art summer camp, when I attended in the 1960's and 70's. Paper mache is a joy to work with, and getting my hands dirty and playing really does feel like a return to childhood, and it's very enjoyable.
