Biography of Susan Wester Perez

Born in New York City in 1959, Susan moved around the U.S several times befor settling into Newton, Massachusetts, where she spent her formative years.

She studied Art and Design at University of Massachusetts in Amherst and later at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. In 1987 she moved to Los Angeles where the quality of light awakened in her a profound love for vivid, bright, and saturated colors, which are a feature of her work.

She supported herself with jobs in art supply stores and bookstores as she worked on her painting, developing and refining her style. She sites as influences; Paul Klee, Georgia O'Keeffe, Peter Max, and Rene Magritte. Her friend and mentor, who booked her first gallery show, calls her style "New interpretations of familiar forms."

Susan now lives in El Paso, Texas with her landscape designer husband. They both work full time out of their home studio, at the edge of Scenic Drive, "Black Cat Art Studios".
